Recently, I learned how lady elephants protect their friends. When a predator is near, or an elephant is giving birth, all the lady elephants will form a circle around the mother so no one can get to her in her vulnerable state. They stamp their feet and create a cloud of dust around them, making it difficult for predators to see and smell the new birth. When the baby is born, they raise their trunks and toot in celebration of the new life in their tribe…
